朝一のシャープなライトに照らし出され、
輝く様なゴールデングリーンの色合いを見せる、
ルアプキ／ニュージーランドのビーチブレイク。
昨日終了した、WSL／ポートタラナキプロは、
写真の向こうに見える半島／ニュープリマスで行われた。
本日のブログは、
２０００年代初期にニュージーランドを旅した時の写真と手記です〜

Today’s blog will be about my record and pictures when I traveled to New Zealand
in the early 2000′s.

On The Road to Ruapuki
ニュージーランドと言えば、ノースアイランドのロ～～～ングレフト／ラグラン。
そのラグランが小さくなると更に奥に入った所に、
ルアプキと呼ばれる美しいビーチブレイクがあった。
ラグランがゴーインオフしてる時は、その存在さえ知らなかったが、
やがてメジャースエルが去り、日に日に小さくなり、
ついにはフラットになるとようやくこのビーチブレイクが丁度頃合いとなる。
何キロにも及ぶブラックサンドのビーチの至る所に、
このようなAーフレームピークが頭をもたげている。
おまけにノーバディ！！！
朝一の光が波のフェイスを突き刺すと、
ブルーからイエローグリーンとなり幻想的な色合いを魅せるラブリースポット。
初めてのニュージーツアー後半はこのルアプキにはまった～
行く道中も細いブッシュロードから、オープンな牧場地帯を抜け、
まるで叙情詩に出て来る様なメルヘンワールドの海が見えて来る。
朝一のクールなオフショアにたなびくリップカール。
夕方はバックリットに輝くシルエットのラインアップ。
ニュージーならではの、自然の美しさをまざまざと感じさせてくれた、
旅の醍醐味の一所だった。
サイズのある時は、ピークがずれカレントもヘビーだったのでランドショット。
でもサーファーはプルインを繰り返し、バレルのクォリティ、
ビューティフル度を俺に訴え、”キンチャン、絶対水中で撮った方がいいっすよ～”と強調、、
でも、、実は俺、、、冷たい海でのフィッシュアイセッション苦手なんすよ～、、、
とも言えず、翌朝ややサイズダウンしたビーチを、５ミリのラバーフルスーツでスイムアウト～
案の定、流されるわ、ヒャッコイリップに叩かれるわ～で心臓バクバク、
顔は紅潮、頭はキンキン状態となった。
それでもサーファーは沖で俺とコネクトしようと頑張ってくれてる、、、
トホホ、、やるっきゃないね～
やや冷水に体も馴れてき、ポジショニングもはっきりしてきたら、
朝一の太陽が山の合間から顔を見せ、一気に回りの景色が変わった。
まさに黄色を飛び越して、金色のゴールデンタイムとなった。
ほんの３０分ほどでまたいつものイエローグリーンに戻ったが、
あの金色の神々しいコールドバレルは今も目に焼き付いている。
毎度思うことだが、ランドショットでは味わうことのできない感動が、
ウォーターショットには隠されている。
って、格好つけたけど、本当は冷たくて泣きそうだったんだ～い。
New Zealand reminds about that North Island’s long lefty, Raglan.
When that Raglan gets small,
there’s this beautiful beach break called Ruapuke in the deeper side.
Didn’t even notice about that beach break when Raglan was going off but
this beach break gets really nice when the swell is gone.
This kind A frame peaks are breaking all over the black sand beach for few klicks.
And no one is surfing!!!!
When the sunlight lights up the wave,
ocean color changes to yellow green from blue.
In my first travel to New Zealand, I really got into this place, Ruapuke~~
To get there, we have drive through the bush, ranches and
finally the ocean shows up like a fairy tale.
Rip curl waving by a morning offshore.
And line up getting lighten up by the evening sun light.
This place was a place that taught me how beautiful this place, New Zealand’s
unique nature is.
When this place gets some size, current gets really heavy so I had to shoot from land.
But surfers told be to I should shoot inside water because of barrel’s high quality and
how beautiful the waves are.
You guys know that I hate doing fish eye session in this kind of cold water…
But can’t complain about it so swam out with my full suit~~
As I thought, I got washed away by the current and smashed by the lip.
And so cold…
But surfers are trying their very best to connect to me…
Got to do it~~
My body got used to this temperature and noticed about the positioning and
suddenly, the ocean started to look different by the morning sunlight.
Color was just like gold.
Got back to yellow green in 30 minutes but
that bright golden color is still unforgettable.
There’s always a wonderful impression hiding in the water that can’t be
seen from the land.
But the truth is, ocean was damn cold~~~

今季悲願のクォリファイをかけての６０００イベント／ニュージー戦に望んだマヒナ。
結果は９位、QSランキングは今回優勝したキーリーアンドリューと４位タイ。
マヒナの戦いはまだまだ続く。
Mahina challenged to the 6000 Event, New Zealand.
And became 9th place and 4th as in the QS Ranking.
Her battle will continue.
