Takayuki Wakita & Liam McNamara @ North Shore Surf Shop
昨日の午後からサイズアップし、
昨夜は５〜６近くにまでパンプした今回のノースウエストスエル。
今朝は少しダウンして、３〜５〜でスティルクリーン。
すかす、オイラはタウンセッションの後、珍しく風邪気味となり、
丸２日デスクワークをしつつもダウン〜〜〜
今日も本来ならどっかで撮影してるコンディションだったが、
まだまだ体調も良くなく、用事がたまりまくりん、、、
で、ハレイワでリアム経営のノースショアサーフショップにストップバイ。
いつものようにワキタは忙しそうに働いていた。
丁度俺の撮った、ワキタ＠ワイメアフォトがバックプリントになった
ノースショアサーフショップティーシャツ／タンクトップが出来ていた〜〜
ワキタが言うには、自分のサイン入りで結構売れていますとのこと。
もうすぐ、ワキタ＠パイプのティーシャツ／タンクトップもカミングアウト。
そのワキタ君、今週末、４／４のフライトでタヒチ入りする。
目的は、QS１０００イベント／パパラサーフフェッスティバルへの参戦だが、
ワキタの頭の中はそれよりも、やっぱチョポなのだ！！！
すでに２日前のフライトで息子のタイチは一足早く、初のタヒチ入りし、
昨日（デイー１）にはすでにケアしてくれているマテとチョポに行き、
グッドバレルを抜けたとの連絡があったと言う。
ワキタとは９０年代初期に初めてタヒチに行ってから、
これまで何度も伝説のチョポセッションを重ねてきた。
ワキタ自身もチョポでQSのコンテストが初めて開かれた時から
必ずチョポ戦には参戦し、その後CTのトライアルへと移行していったのだ。
つまり、ワキタにとってのサーフィンライフはパイプ、そしてチョポなのだ！！
そして昨年、バリサムドラビルのサポートを得て、
日本人精鋭サーファー６人に、コアサーフジャパンチームの９人体制で、
久し振りのタヒチ／チョポ取材を２週間敢行することができた。
もちろんワキタはそのメンバーの一人、いやチームを牽引するほどの存在だった。
これ以上ないというくらいまでチョポにしがみついていた姿勢は、
他の若手サーファーにない鬼気迫るものがあったといえる。
俺も数年チョポから離れていたので、
心底一年に一度は戻ってきたい、いや、来なければとわからされたほどだった、、、
そして、ワキタは今までの想いを胸に、今年もタヒチへ行く。
Size started to rise from yesterday and
got up to 5~6 by last night.
And got down to 3~5~ by this morning but it’s still clean.
But I’m still sick so
worked on my desk works so but still don’t feel good~~~
I had to shoot in this kind of condition but
can’t work by my sickness so jobs are piling up…
When I was driving through the North Shore Surf Shop,
I dropped by and Wakita looked busy working there like always.
New North Shore Surf Shop’s t-shirt by my Waimea photo of Wakita was
finally sold on store~~
Wakita was saying it’s selling pretty well with his autograph.
And his new t-shirt with his shot at Pipe is coming soon as well.
Also, he’s flying to Tahiti on April 4th for the QS1000 Event, Papara Surf Festival.
But he’s just looking straight at Teahupoo!!!
His son, Taichi flew to Taihiti 2 days ago already and it seems Taichi is having
a good time there.
I’ve went through many legendary session with Wakita from the early 1990′s
in Teahupoo.
And Wakita kept participating on the competition from the first one and
moved on to the CT’s trial.
I mean surfing life’s source for Wakita is in Pipe & Teahupoo!!
Last year, I was able to go to Teahupoo with 6 surfers and other Core Surf Japan members
by Bali Samudra Biru’s support for 2 weeks.
Of course, Wakita was one of the main surfer in this group.
His surfing stance of kept on surfing in Teahupoo was
just massive compering to other surfers.
I didn’t visit Teahupoo for a while but this made think
that I should come back here once a year.
And Wakita’s gonna go back there again.

あれからもう一年がたつのか、、、、
タヒチに戻りたい〜〜〜
