本日のノース、モアモアウインディで朝一からもうブ〜ブ〜
スエルもイーストスエルがラップしてノースに入って来ているので、
海が右から左へと流れ、そこに風も入り、スーパークラッピーコンディション〜
天気もまた雨混じりの一日となり、ノーシュート／デスクワークデイとなった。
Got more windier and
swell is easterly so ocean is in crappy mood~~
Weather was also outcast so no shooting for today.
アドリアーノデスーザがグランドチャンプに輝き、パイプマスターズも制し、
ガルリエルメディーナがトリプルクラウンに輝き、パイプマスターズは準優勝、
そして世界ランキングもアドリアーニに次ぐ２位でフィニッシュし、
まさに熱狂のブラジリアンストームで幕を閉じたパイプマスターズ。
様々なタイトルレースのストーリーが生まれたこの試合の中でも、
重要なキーパーソンとなった二人がいた。
Adriano became the Champ,
Gabriel conquered the Triple Crown and became 2nd place in the World Ranking.
Pipe Masters ended with one Brazilian storm.
And this two surfer was the key person of this title race.
Mason Ho
ブラジリアンストームならぬハワイアンストームとなったメイソンホーはその一人。
パイプインビテーショナル（トライアル）ではファイナリストになったものの、
ジャック、ジャーミーの次３位に甘んじ、惜しくもワイルドカードをゲット出来なかったが、
優勝候補とも言われたオーウェンライトが、このトライアルが行われた朝の練習中、
頭をヒットし脳しんとうを起こし、病院に行くと脳内出血していると診断され、
急遽欠場となり、トライアル３位だったメイソンが繰り上がったと言う訳だ。
そこからがメイソンの快進撃が続いた。
ラウンドー１はトップ通過でラウンドー３にスキップし、
ラウンドー２から勝ち上がって来たフィリーペトレドとのヒートでは、
最後の最後で御覧のシークエンスの様にパイプバレルを決め、５点をマークし、
微差ながらもグラチャン争いの最も近距離にいたフィリーペトレドを、
このアーリーラウンドで敗ったことによって、
フィリーペのグラチャンのチャンスは消え失せたのだ。
そしてその後もメイソンはノリノリで、ラウンドー４では１０ポイントを叩き出し、
クォーターへスキップし、一気にサイズダウンしたファイナルデイでも、
アダムメーリングをバックドアバレルで敗り、セミファイナルへ進出。
ここでまたタイトルレースに最も近くなったアドリアーノとの対決となった訳だ。
先に行われたセミー１で、ガブリエルがミックを下した事によって、
ミックの自力によるタイトル奪取がなくなり、
一方アドリアーノはこのセミを勝ち上がると、グラチャンが決まるという
最大の魅せ場となったセミファイナル／ヒートー２だった。
つまり全てがかかっているアドリアーノと、ナッシングルーズのメイソン。
波はもうクラッピー／ジャンクでなんとかバックドアでバレルを見つけるしかない、
という状況のヒートの中、アドリアーノは４点をマーク、メイソンも3.83ptを出し、
勝負は互角に見えたが、アドリアーノがバックアップで2.83ptを取り、
メイソンはまだ一本しか乗ってなかったがニード3.01ptだけだった。
しかしとうとう最後まで求める波が来ず、
ホーンの鳴る直前に乗った波はプライオリティインターフェアとなり、
メイソンはここで敗れてしまい、かたやアドリアーノはこの瞬間
ワールドチャンピオンが決定したのだ。
イフ、もし、という言葉で言いならば、メイソンがこのヒートに勝ち、
ファイナルで優勝したならばミックファニングがグラチャンになり、
ファイナルで準優勝ならばガブリエルがグラチャンになっていたと言う事だ。
いずれにせよメイソンにとってそんな事は関係なく、
ラッキーでトライアルから本戦出場が決まり、素晴らしいサーフィンを見せ付け、
セミファイナルにまで勝ち上がって来た事こそ価値のあるものだった。
Mason Ho was the one who made a Hawaiian storm.
Became the finalist on the Pipe Invitational and
became 3rd place but Owen Wright injured his head during his trial so
Mason was able to slide into that space.
That’s how Mason’s march began.
Won as a 1st place on Round 1 so skipped to Round 3.
He fought with Filipe and scored 5 points on the final part of the heat and
won the heat so Filipe lost his chance to become a Grand Champion.
Mason kept on marching forward. Scored 10 points and skipped to Quarter Final.
Even the size went down, he still won over Adam Melling and went up to the Semi-Final.
And that’s how Mason met Adriano.
Gabriel gain his victory over Mick so
Mick lost his chance for his Grand Champion by his self and
Adriano got his major chance to become the Grand Champion by just winning up to
Semi-Final. So Adriano was betting everything on this and Mason has nothing to lose.
Adriano scored 4 and Mason scored 3.83.
Tide of battle looked close and Ariano’s back wave was 2.83 so
Mason needed only 3.01.
But one good wave didn’t come till the end and
Mason has lost on this round. From this point, Adriano became the Grand Champion.
If Mason could of won this match,
Mick Fanning became the Grand Champion and if Mason became 2nd,
Gabriel became the Grand Champion.
But Mason has nothing to do with those business.
It was just wonderful see his marvelous performance
and won up to the Semi-Final

終始絶好調だったガブリエル、負けそうなヒートでも最後で引っくり返すなど
本当にぶれない底力を見せ付けながら、ついにセミファイナルでミックファニングと対決。
タイトルレース／トップ３に入っているガブリエルは優勝するしかなく、
ここで負けるわけにはいかない激熱のヒートとなった。
しかしミックは一本目から7.33ptを叩き出し、前半から中盤にかけてリードしていた。
ガブリエルも4.83ptを出すがまだ届かない。
ガブリエル特有の乗りまくり攻撃だったが、
シャットダウンやワイプアウトでポイントが伸びない。
それでも何が何でものガブリエルは、
ついに伝家の宝刀／フルローテーションのエアーを決めて来た。
もしこれが普通のビーチブレイクの試合だったら、
間違いなく、８いや９、いや１０ポイントを叩き出す演技だっただろう。
しかしこれはパイプマスターズという特殊な試合でチューブにしか点が出ないはず。
し、しかしこの演技に6.50ptがつき、一気に逆転、ミックはニード４点になってしまった。
波もしょぼく４点を出す波が来ないままミックは敗れ、
ガブリエルはファイナルへと進み、自力優勝のタイトル奪取への道を残したのだ。
かつてタジバロウがパイプマスターズに優勝した時も、
確かバックドアでエアーを決めハイスコアを叩き出し、ケリーを敗ったことがあった。
セミファイナルまでは通常のチューブライドが採点基準だったのが、
あまりのオンショアでチューブが無いと判断され、
ファイナルから採点基準が変わったと聞いた。
ケリーはこの頃すでに何度もパイプマスターズに君臨していた時期だったので、
負けても余裕のコメントで、あれいつのまにエアーで点が出る様になったの？
いずれにせよこのガブリエルの恐るべしフルローテーションエアーのよって、
ミックファニングはファイナルに勝ち上がる事が出来ず、
結果ガブリエルもファイナルでアドリアーノに敗れ、
２年連続パイプマスターズのランナーアップに甘んじる事となった。
Gabriel was pumping through the competition. Even he was in close situation,
he showed his burning spirit and the battle with Mick Fanning came.
Gabriel had only one way to win the title race. Win the Pipe Masters.
Mick lead the first part with 7.33 and
Gabriel had only 4.83pt. Tried to charge aggressively but
points ain’t getting good. And at this one point, Gabriel made his full rotation air.
I could tell that if the field was at a beach break, point would of been nearly 10 point but
in Pipe Masters, barrel ride is the major pointer so his ride was on;y 6.50.
But that gave him a victory in this round and won up to the Final.
I remember Kelly Slater getting defeated by Taj Burrow by his air in Backdoor.
Valuation basis usually barrel in this competition but the condition between
Kelly and Taj was too onshore so basis has changed.
Kelly was like a unstoppable surfer in that time so
he was asking when did they started counting air as a score.
Anyway, Gabriel defeated Mick by his full rotation air and
Adriano defeated Gabriel in the Final.
世界タイトル争いの裏には、こういった色んなドラマが現場で起き、
結果全てが追い風となったアドリアーノデスーザがワールドチャンピオンに輝いたのだ。
In the title race, there’s always many stories going on in the background.
And because of these dramatic stories, Adriano became the World Champion.
